
The Central Administration of Blood and Cellular Therapy (CABCT), operating under the Ministry of Health – State of Kuwait, is a central non-profit governmental entity responsible for the provision of comprehensive blood and cellular therapy services across the country. CABCT was formally established in December 2025 following the restructuring and institutional reform of the Blood Transfusion Administration Services (BTAS), which was originally established in 1970.
Throughout its history, BTAS developed into a recognized regional leader in safe blood transfusion practices and advanced laboratory services. This transformation reflects the State of Kuwait’s sustained commitment to excellence in transfusion medicine and patient safety, marking nearly six decades since the establishment of Kuwait’s first blood bank in 1965.

Accredited by AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) since 1989, and recognized as an International Reference Laboratory (IRL-AABB) in 2014.

The Central Blood Bank facility at Jabriya was formally established in 1986 as a purpose-built national center for blood transfusion services in the State of Kuwait. Its establishment represented a major milestone in consolidating blood banking activities that were previously dispersed across multiple hospitals, enabling the standardization of donor services, laboratory testing, component preparation, storage, and nationwide distribution. Since its inception, the Jabriya facility has served as the cornerstone of Kuwait’s blood transfusion system, supporting patient safety, service continuity, and the progressive development of advanced transfusion and laboratory practices at the national level.
Opened in 1986, It is located near the western borders of the State of Kuwait and serves Al-jahra Governorate and part of Al-Asma Governorate with bed capacity 5 beds, the total donation was5158 units in 2023.
In 1986 a branch of the blood bank was opened in Al-Adan Hospital, where it provided blood and its derivatives to the Ahmadi and Farwaniya areas. In 2020 the Cooperative Center for Blood Transfusion was opened next to Al-Adan Hospital. It has a bed capacity of 14, and the total number of blood bags that were donated in the year 2023 was 8798 blood units.

Opened in 2016, It is the middle of Al-asma Governorate, with bed capacity 3 beds, the total donation was 242 units in 2023.
Opened in 2018, It is in Al-Sabah Medical Area, serves Al-sabah medical, with bed capacity 8 beds, the total donation was 1278 units in 2023
Opened in December 2022, it is located in the South Surra area, serves the South Surra area with a bed capacity of 6 beds, Work was temporarily suspended during the Corona pandemic and then restarted in December 2022. The total number of blood bags donated in 2023 reached 883 blood bags.
Opened in 2013, It is the Al-Smoud Ninth camp and serves the military sector in Kuwait capacity is 6 beds.
It opened in December 2020, provides blood for Farwaniya Governorate and its suburbs, with a clinical capacity of 4, and the total number of blood bags that were donated during the month of December 2023 was 2984 blood units.
